Lionel Messi has a new home just a few days after officially parting ways with Barcelona. The soccer star has reportedly agreed to a deal with Paris Saint-Germain that will keep him in France through at least 2023.

Messi is set to sign a two-year contract with PSG worth £25 million ($34.6 million) per season, according to Sky Sports. The deal includes an option for a third year at the same salary, as well as a £25 million signing fee.

On Tuesday afternoon, Messi landed in Paris aboard a private jet, ESPN reports, in order to complete his medical. A news conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, when the deal is expected to be formally announced.

Heading to PSG was not Messi’s first choice. The legendary soccer player agreed to take a 50% pay cut to stay with Barcelona in July, but the team still couldn’t afford Messi at a reduced salary.

"The club is above everything - even above the best player in the world," Barcelona President Joan Laporta said at a news conference last week.

"We reached agreement but couldn't formalize it, because of the club's economic situation, which means we can't register the player due to salary limits," he said.

Messi’s previous contract paid him $674 million over four years.

In May, Forbes pegged Messi as the world’s second-highest paid athlete of 2021, trailing only UFC star Conor McGregor. The 34-year-old was estimated to have made $130 million in a year, comprising of $97 million from Barcelona and $33 million off the field.
