KEY POINTS

  • Liverpool currently are 22 points clear on the top
  • The Reds are six wins away from winning Premier League
  • Klopp heaped praise on his skipper Jordon Henderson

Liverpool FC, who are 22 points clear on the top of the Premier League table, are nearing to finally winning the English top-flight title for the first time in 30 years.

When asked about the secret of the current unrivaled success, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp summed up his reply in a simple way that was around the leadership of his captain Jordon Henderson.

“Hendo is one example. There are plenty of others. But did he look like the captain of a team that is 19 points ahead?” Klopp said after Liverpool’s recent 4-0 victory over Southampton that took them closer towards their title coronation.

“Not for a second. It looked like if we lose we are relegated. That is how the boys were. That is the only way for us to win a game. It is always the same,” the proud manager added in a recent interview.

After Liverpool’s victory, Manchester City suffered a 2-0 loss Sunday to Tottenham Hotspur and that meant, the Premier League leaders ended the day 22 points clear of the reigning champions who are currently in second place - the biggest lead any league-leader has ever held at the end of the day in the Premier League.

Henderson and Co have already accumulated 73 points with 24 victories and a draw, while the other teams in the top-four in the ongoing 2019-20 Premier League season have not even touched the 60-point mark.

Liverpool now are only six wins away from clinching the coveted Premier League trophy that will go on Klopp’s cabinet, which also includes the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. After going trophy-less in his first four years as in-charge, Klopp led Liverpool to three major titles in 2019.
