  • Salah is upbeat about returning to action soon
  • Salah could be back by next week for Liverpool
  • Salah continues to be criticized for attending his brother's wedding

Mohamed Salah made his first public comments after testing positive for COVID-19.

Currently on international duty, the 28-year-old footballer appears to be doing well and in high spirits. If all goes accordingly, he should be back on the field in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League match against Atalanta.

Since being diagnosed with the virus, Salah has been pretty quiet about his status. That was until recently when the Egyptian player posted on Twitter.

"I’d like to thank everyone for the supportive messages and well wishes. I’m confident I’ll be back on the field soon," he wrote.

Salah was diagnosed to have mild coronavirus symptoms by Egypt team doctor Mohamed Abou Elela. He is currently in self-isolation and will miss the Reds match against Leicester City this weekend.

If his condition improves, there is a chance that he may be back by Wednesday. Should Salah be deemed not yet ready by that time, his return could be by next weekend when Liverpool faces Brighton.

Salah continues to garner criticism for attending his brother’s wedding which is where most believe he got the virus.

Among those who criticized the Egyptian player include former Egypt striker Mido. For him, Salah showed great negligence after he was shown dancing and interacting with guests without wearing a mask.

“Mohamed Salah made a big mistake by attending his brother's wedding a few days before the Egyptian national team match. He showed great negligence with the steps taken to prevent the coronavirus and the result was that he was infected," Mido said via Al-Nahar TV.

With more than 800 people in attendance at the wedding, Mido felt that Salah should have not been there at all.

He pointed out that Salah should have realized his importance to the Egyptian team and how he would have placed his teammates at risk.

Aside from that, Salah gave Reds manager Jurgen Klopp more problems with Liverpool. The Reds are already without several key players.

As mentioned in a previous post, that includes Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho. Thiago and Sadio Mane are also out with both in self-isolation for also testing positive for COVID-19.
