  • David Alaba is set to leave Bayern Munich as a free agent this summer
  • Real Madrid have been in constant touch with Alaba's representatives
  • Liverpool are looking to sign Alaba despite his high salary

Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, who is one of Real Madrid’s top targets, at Liverpool at the summer 2021 transfer window.

Alaba will be available as a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 campaign and Klopp has asked Liverpool’s sports management to not miss a chance to sign the Austrian center-back on a free transfer, Spanish publication Don Balon reported.

It was earlier reported that Real Madrid and Alaba had reached an agreement and the player was set to move to Santiago Bernabeu on a four-year contract. Rubbishing the news, Alaba’s father George said, “I cannot confirm the information that comes from Spain. There is nothing fixed or signed.”

The Don Balon report has also stated that Liverpool are looking to sign Alaba despite the fact that the player’s salary is high.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will now have to raise the economic proposal in order to not lose Alaba, but that would be difficult if the La Liga champions don’t manage to offload a few players in the coming months. Moreover, his deal with Real Madrid is not directly connected to Sergio Ramos’ future at Santiago Bernabeu. The Real Madrid skipper is still negotiating with Real Madrid over a contract extension.

With the ability to play not only as left or center-back but also occupy a position in the midfield, Alaba is currently ranked pretty high in the European market for being a versatile player. His physique and good technique come as an added advantage.

In 2009, Alaba made his senior debut with Bayern Munich, and since, the defender has made 408 appearances for the German club. The 28-year-old has scored 32 goals and provided 49 assists, and has been a part of 25 titles, including two Champions League and nine Bundesliga trophies.

It is understood that Bayern have tried everything to convince Alaba to stay, but the Austrian player has made up his mind about wanting a new challenge next season. Bayern have made three separate contract extension offers but Alaba rejected them all. Alaba, who could earn $13 million a year at Los Blancos, is also believed to have felt that he has not been valued enough by the German champions.
