KEY POINTS

  • Sadio Mane has a year left on his Liverpool contract
  • He has netted 22 goals for Reds this term
  • Liverpool are a point behind Man City in the league title race

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are interested in signing Liverpool FC forward Sadio Mane ahead of the 2022 summer window.

Mane has a year left on his current contract at Liverpool and the Senegalese forward has not signed an extension yet. Mane is hesitant to renew the deal at Anfield because of PSG's interest and his potential high salary at Parc des Princes, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk, who has a credible record in the European soccer market. However, International Business Times could not verify it independently.

If Liverpool fail to reach an agreement with Mane soon, the Reds will look to cash in on the 30-year-old-forward, who has a current market value of $86 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Earlier it was reported that Bayern Munich had shortlisted Mane as their "statement transfer" since they were aware that the player's contract talks with Liverpool were "faltering." Even though there was no contact between the Bundesliga champions and Liverpool, Mane's agent met Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic earlier this month regarding the transfer.

While Bayern Munich will be desperate to bring in Mane if Robert Lewandowski leaves the Allianz Arena in the summer, it wouldn't be an easy way out for them now that Ligue 1 giants PSG are also interested.

PSG's key forward Kylian Mbappe is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid at the end of the 2021-22 season. Mane is versatile enough to become a part of the PSG front three involving Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Liverpool have been planning to hold talks over a new contract with Mane but at the same time, they are already preparing for the possibility of his departure by entering the race to sign Ajax Amsterdam sensation Antony of Brazil, according to The Hard Tackle. However, they will receive some stiff competition from Manchester United in this case.

In the ongoing campaign, Mane is one of the three Liverpool players to have scored 20 or more goals across all competitions. The Senegalese has netted 22 goals and five assists in 49 matches.

Liverpool are still chasing the historic quadruple. They have already clinched two trophies in the League Cup and FA Cup. The Reds are one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League title with one game to go in the campaign. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp's side is also scheduled to play the UEFA Champions League final later this month against Real Madrid in Paris.
