A Liverpool signing who has earned comparisons to Lionel Messi reportedly “wowed” veteran stars during training.

Through the years, there have been a number of youngsters who, at some point, were touted to become the future Messi. However, only a few managed to live up the hype. One of them could be Harvey Elliott, a teenager signed by Liverpool last summer.

As early as now, Elliott is predicted to have a great career with the Reds. Teamtalk recently reported that the 17-year-old has been receiving incredible feedback from Fulham’s academy director Huw Jennings, Liverpool’s former Under-23s manager Neil Critchley and even Jurgen Klopp.

Elliott reportedly did not waste time after moving to Anfield from Fulham last summer. According to The Athletic, Elliott “raised eyebrows” and “wowed” Liverpool’s senior stars during the very first week of training.

The report further stated that it was Elliott’s Fulham boss Jennings who first compared the youngster to Messi. After an impressive run at Fulham, Jennings confirmed that prior to negotiating with Liverpool last summer, Elliott was also targeted by Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool may have already taken the first step in landing Elliott. However, according to a report from Daily Mirror, the deal is yet to be settled, and the money involved in the completion could be a lump sum. It has been said that Liverpool haggled over the amount for the Messi-like midfielder and is now being referred to an independent tribunal who will agree on the terms of compensation.

Until then, Elliott is expected to continue his rise to stardom with the Reds. During Liverpool’s EFL Cup win over MK Dons, Elliott was handed his first first-team start and became the youngest-ever player in the club’s history to start a game.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s official website revealed that the Reds are now searching for an attacking midfielder who could be of a significant help to Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool badly missed out on RB Leipzig star Timo Werner despite making an impressive bid. But apparently, the Reds have quickly moved on from the failed Werner deal. According to the club’s website, Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz is the “only true replacement for Werner” and might just be the best young talent the Reds are looking for.

While the completion of Elliott’s deal is still in the works, Liverpool is said to be really open to spending big on landing an attacking player just like what they did with Werner.
