When the AirPods were revealed during Apple’s event in September, people quickly went on social media to mock the high chances of losing one earphone. However, a new app may solve that problem.

Finder for AirPods, made by iOS developer Deucks, will look for your wireless earphones when you lose them. The app may be a far better alternative for users who don’t want to pay the $69 replacement fee for losing an AirPod.

How To Find Your AirPods

First, download the app and pair your iOS device with your AirPods. When you lose your headphones, the app will guide you to your missing AirPods. The app locates your missing earphones (or earphone) by trying to look for your AirPods’ wireless signature.

However, you’re going to have to be quick. If your AirPods’ battery dies, the app won’t be able to locate them.

App Reviews

Finder for AirPods , which was released Monday, costs $3.99, requires iOS 10.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The app already has four and a half stars on the App Store.

“It has a nice interface and is very simple and straightforward,” said one review. “From what I can tell, this is the only app that will help you find your AirPods. $4 is much better than ~$70 to replace one.”

“I accidentally fell asleep with both AirPods in my ears and couldn't find them when I woke up,” said another review. “I downloaded the app and 5 minutes later I found both of them.”

But MacRumors , which reviewed the app, says there are some limitations, like “the possibility for obstructing environmental factors that play around with the Bluetooth signal to the app's detriment.”

If you live in a large home, the app could have some trouble locating your AirPods, according to MacRumors. Also, the apps’ two sentences that help you locate the AirPods, "You're getting closer" and "It's around here," might not be a successful guidance in tracking the earphones.

MacRumors added:

“On the bright side, an unstable signal can have a positive aspect: once users know what to look for, they can eliminate certain locations in an area where the signal is reacting poorly and move to somewhere until the bar becomes stable, bringing them closer to their lost AirPod.”

The AirPods, which come with a charging case, are currently priced at $159.
