Luzern-Carnival, the 3-day festival that takes over Lucerne, Switzerland, each year, is currently underway. Here's your chance to see all the crazy costumes, revelers and fun for yourself.

The festivities are put on each year near the end of winter, with the purpose of driving away the winter cold and ushering in the spring.

A documentary video was filmed of last year's Luzern-Carnival (see video below), in which the narrator tells the tale of the Luzern-Carnival and the way it sweeps through Lucerne, Switzerland:

Every year, towards the end of the winter, Carnival...breaks out in the streets, alleyways and squares of the old town, the narrator says. Strange and ghoulish characters in fantastic masks and costumes make their way through the alleyways. This is a glittering outdoor party, where chaos and merriness reign, and nothing is as it normally is.

The history of Luzern-Carnival goes back more than 600 years. The event is most renowned for the creepy, hand-crafted masks and elaborate costumes that revelers wear in the town's streets and squares by thousands of revellers during the three-day carnival festival.
