The Madden 13 cover vote, which started with a representative from all 32 teams all the way back on Mar. 21, is down to its last four players.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, the seeming favorite to win it all, advanced past Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who graced the cover of Madden 10 with Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, with 70 percent of the vote.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis advanced past fan-favorite New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz with 55 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers advanced past Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice with 55 percent of the vote. Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson edged New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski with 63 percent of the vote.

As a result, Newton, a one-seed, is pitted against Willis, an under-the-radar 11-seed, while Rodgers, another one-seed, is pitted against his NFC North divisional rival Johnson, a six-seed.

The winners of the semifinals of the Madden 13 cover tournament will be revealed on Apr. 18. The overall winner will be revealed on Apr.25.

The way Newton has coasted throughout. After all, the former Heisman Trophy winner set the record for most passing yards by a rookie in a single season (4,051) and scored the most rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in a single season (14). Nevertheless, the popularity of the other three semifinalists could present strong roadblocks.
