‘Riverdale’
Will Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) tell Josie (Ashleigh Murray) the truth about her feelings for her in “Riverdale” Season 2? The CW

A potential lesbian couple may be introduced in The CW’s “Riverdale” Season 2!

On Wednesday night’s episode, titled “Chapter 20: Tales From The Dark Side,”Josie (Ashleigh Murray) received tons of gifts from an unknown character. The lead singer of Josie and the Pussycats initially thought that the gifts were from Chuck Clayton (Jordan Calloway). But towards the end of the installment, it was revealed that Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) has become obsessed with Josie.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Petsch explained the dynamic between the two characters. She also revealed what her character is looking for when it comes to a partner.

“Last season, we talked a lot about how close Cheryl and Josie were, but you never really saw it on camera. But Josie is the only real ally that Cheryl has in this school and the only person that Cheryl is willing to open up to even the littlest bit. She hasn’t really opened up to her too much, but they create a really beautiful friendship in the beginning of the season. And then the chaos happens,” she said.

The identity of Cheryl’s potential love interest has been kept a secret throughout the first half of Season 2. There were initial speculations suggesting that Cheryl and Toni (Vanessa Morgan) will become an item. But regardless of who Cheryl ends up with, Petsch knows exactly what her character is looking for.

“She needs love. She’s obviously still figuring herself out a little bit, but she’s discovered that she has no love, no home base, no friends, and this season her undercurrent is absolutely low. She’s really looking for love and she’s looking for it in all the right – and all the wrong – places,” she explained.

As of late, Josie is still unaware that her own friend, Cheryl, is her secret admirer. This secret will be unraveled in the upcoming episodes of “Riverdale” Season 2. But Murray said that she’s been having a blast working with Petsch on and off screen.

“Mads has such a beautiful personality. She’s so sweet and she’s so funny and you don’t get to see that often,” she said.

“Riverdale” Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
