Man Caught on Camera Shooting Ex-Girlfriend to Death Kills Himself

A 46-year-old man, who was caught on camera shooting to death his ex-girlfriend in front of their 3-year-old daughter, has killed himself while being chased by police.

According to the Irving Police Department, Herbert Nixon Flores shot himself in Irving while officers were chasing him down for the murder. The Irving police were assisting the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force from Los Angeles, reported ABC 7 News.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said Flores was suspected of killing 35-year-old Karen Ruiz. On Wednesday around 9:35 am, officers responded to a call of a shooting on the 9000 block of Bartee Avenue. On arriving, the deputies found Ruiz dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Video footage of the crime released by police shows Flores chasing the woman up the driveway of a home and firing a gun. Shortly after, a child is heard screaming as well. The man in the video then runs away and escapes in a sedan.

According to the LAPD, Ruiz drove to Arleta to drop off her daughter at a babysitter's house. Flores followed Ruiz to the residence before shooting her.

A manhunt was immediately launched and investigators learned that Flores was visiting family in Irving. He was located nearby Arlington.

"Flores was seen getting inside a vehicle and began traveling towards Dallas. With the assistance of the Dallas Police Air Unit and ground units, Flores's movements were tracked until marked police cars were in the area. When the suspect realized he was being followed, he abandoned his vehicle and began walking," said the statement by Police.

The Irving Police said the investigation is in its early stages and anyone with more information can contact them. The couple, with a history of domestic violence, recently separated, and Ruiz had a restraining order against Flores.

Recently, a soldier had fatally shot his pregnant wife before killing himself at their home in North Carolina. Police said preliminary investigation revealed Keith Lewis shot his wife Sarah Lewis following an altercation before killing himself. Investigators said the couple’s toddler daughter was present in the room when the incident took place.
