A young aspiring model was found dead with her face crushed along a highway in the western Indian state of Maharashtra on Sunday. According to local media reports, the woman's boyfriend admitted to killing her on suspicion of her "character."

Police arrested the man, identified as Ashraf Sheikh, in Maharashtra's Nagpur district. He said he allegedly killed his girlfriend suspecting her of being close to other men. The woman was identified as Khushi Parihar.

"Live-in partner of a 20-year-old girl brutally hacked her to death near Kelvad-Pandhurna highway. The body of the girl with severe head injuries was found on the roadside," officer Anil Jattwar said, according to the Times of India, a local daily newspaper.

Local police said they were alerted about a body along Pandhurna-Nagpur highway. With the help of social media, police identified the body and alerted her family. According to the official, Sheikh "confessed" that he killed Parihar.

Police believe Sheikh traveled with Parihar in his car on July 12 and later allegedly killed her by crushing her head. According to reports, the duo got into an argument before Sheikh allegedly killed Parihar and dumped her body near the highway.

A case of murder was registered by Nagpur police. The case is currently under investigation.

In another recent incident, a 37-year-old man killed himself after poisoning his wife and children in the north Indian city of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh suspecting his wife was cheating on him. Police arrived at the scene and broke the door of the home to find the bodies of three children. According to local police, the man was an alcoholic and suspected his wife of having an affair.
