KEY POINTS

  • Martial, Greenwood and Fernandes scored in Man Utd's 3-0 win Sunday
  • Martial now has scored in two consecutive Premier League matches
  • Man Utd have climbed back to No. 5 in the points table

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Anthony Martial but at the same time, he warned the star forward to be more consistent after his side’s 3-0 win over Watford on Sunday in the Premier League.

After Bruno Fernandes, scoring his maiden goal for Man Utd, open the goal-scoring at Old Trafford, Anthony made it 2-0 before young talent Mason Greenwood ensured his side ended with a comfortable 3-0 victory. It was Man Utd’s second clean sheet since the winter break in as many games and their boss couldn’t have been happier and relieved a bit.

“It was a very good win. That's two good wins and two clean sheets [in the league since the winter break], plus some goals to celebrate. I thought, in the first half, we started by gifting them some good opportunities but, gradually, we created more and more chances."

"It's been a very good week, overall. We also got an away goal and score-draw in Europe so I'm very pleased with everyone after the good break we had. That was an important week in Marbella; building team spirit, camaraderie and some understanding between players. It's working. Now we want to kick on,” Solskjaer said at his post-match press conference after Watford win.

Anthony, who was under the radar for repeated poor performances in the last few weeks, has now scored in two consecutive Premier League fixtures and helped Man Utd earn crucial points. When Solskjaer was quizzed about Anthony, the manager replied, "He’s so skillful, Anthony. I thought he’d ran offside, but the timing from Bruno’s pass was perfect and the skill there is just incredible. He does that in training, so you’re not that surprised. I’m delighted with the week Anthony has had.”

The Norwegian went on to add that he is the “biggest” critic of Anthony and he wants “more from him.”

“He has his critics - I’m probably the biggest. He scored a great header against Chelsea, did everything to score against Brugge and today was more classic Anthony. But I want more from him and I’ll keep on at him,” Solskjaer further added.

After the recent victories, Man Utd have crawled their way back to the upper side of the table and now are just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Both the clubs have not performed consistently in the ongoing season and it will be an interesting fight for the fourth spot in the Premier League table that would give an automatic qualification to next season’s Champions League.
