  • Manchester United is close to completing the transfer of Raphael Varane
  • The Red Devils are likely to sign a midfielder next
  • Eduardo Camavinga was mentioned as a top target

Manchester United could already be looking at the next potential signing as the club closes in on Raphael Varane’s transfer.

After long courtship, the Red Devils have finally agreed to a fee believed to be around £41 million ($57 million) plus add-ons for Varane’s move to Old Trafford, Sky Sports reported.

With the Varane deal already done, Manchester United will now continue with its pursuit of a well-rounded midfielder, renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported.

According to Romano, Varane’s transfer is still the top “priority” at the moment. But a move for a midfielder is next in line with Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga as top targets.

“And for the midfielder, I wanted to clarify for Manchester United,” Romano recently said on “ The Here We Go Podcast.” “For the midfielder, it will be an opportunity. I see a lot of questions – [Leon] Goretzka, Saul [Niguez], [Eduardo] Camavinga–but it’s not a priority now. The priority is to complete the Varane deal and then to go for a midfielder."

The three aforementioned midfielders have one thing in common in this rumored Manchester United transfer move–all of them are touted as Paul Pogba’s replacement.

However, it is Camavinga who appears to be the most interesting prospect being linked to Pogba’s transfer saga.

An earlier report said that Camavinga is already “one step away” from becoming a Manchester United player.

Along with it, rumors swirl that the Red Devils might be thinking of bringing him in to take Pogba’s place in case the World Cup winner leaves.

Rennes, meanwhile, has been consistent in its stance of keeping the teenager as the club eyes to hand him a new deal, possibly before he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January, the report added.

What’s even more interesting is that Camavinga is already being hyped as the "new Pogba," and the Frenchman himself once acknowledged the said similarities.

According to Pogba, he does see “a bit” of him in the youngster.

“I was truly happy for him,” Pogba said of Camavinga last year. “I only wish him the best and much more. He has everything for that. His future is in his hands.”

“He is very at ease, he is a little dancer,” the four-time Serie A champ added. “He makes me think a bit about me. He is not a timid person. It is good because he is confident. He has confidence in his qualities. He is a very good youngster, I like him enormously.”
