  • Manchester United is leading the race to sign Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga
  • Camavinga's arrival will not affect Paul Pogba's future with the Red Devils

Manchester United might have just taken a step closer to signing another sought-after player.

The Red Devils are seemingly having quite a success in bolstering this summer. After securing a deal for Jadon Sancho, the club is now reportedly working on the transfer of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

A wide array of big-name clubs has been tailing Camavinga, but Manchester United has just become the frontrunner in landing the teenager and is now “one step away” from getting the deal done, veteran journalist and Calciomercato’s Rudy Galetti reported.

International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

“[Camavinga] is one step away from being a new [Man United] player,” Galetti tweeted. “Official bid [has] arrived: final details are being discussed before the done deal.”

Prior to the said report, Rennes is believed to be well aware that clubs have been keeping tabs on Camavinga’s “ very delicate situation,” Sky Sports reported.

Manchester United has already held informal talks with Camavinga's representatives, having known that the 18-year-old is approaching the final year of his contract.

Rennes, meanwhile, is eyeing to hand him a new deal possibly before he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January, the report added.

With Manchester United in pole position to sign Camavinga, who is a highly-regarded midfielder, rumors swirl that the Red Devils might be thinking of bringing him in to take Paul Pogba’s place in case the World Cup winner leaves.

However, it was later reported that Manchester United’s interest in Camavinga has nothing to do with Pogba, despite the latter nearing the final year of his contract, per French newspaper L'Equipe.

What’s even more interesting about Camavinga amid his link-up with Manchester United is that he previously revealed his admiration for Pogba’s game.

Pogba, on the other hand, had also once acknowledged his similarities with Camavinga, pointing out that the youngster indeed plays “a bit” like him.

“I was truly happy for him,” Pogba said of Camavinga last year. “I only wish him the best and much more. He has everything for that. His future is in his hands.”

“He is very at ease, he is a little dancer,” the four-time Serie A champ added. “He makes me think a bit about me. He is not a timid person. It is good because he is confident. He has confidence in his qualities. He is a very good youngster, I like him enormously.”
