  • FC Porto's Luis Diaz is being linked to English Premier League clubs
  • Manchester United has reportedly been one of the teams tracking Diaz
  • Ralf Rangnick earlier revealed what type of signing he's looking for in January

A prolific goal scorer from South America could find himself joining the English Premier League in winter.

Initially, transfers were not much of an option in Manchester United’s recuperating process.

However, the club’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick recently hinted at the possibility of signing new players in the January transfer window.

One of the players believed to be on the club’s radar is FC Porto’s attacker Luis Diaz, Fichajes reported. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

According to the report, Manchester United has become one of the latest suitors of Diaz with Liverpool and Manchester City already tracking him in recent times.

Porto’s devastating exit from this year’s UEFA Champions League might tempt them to cash in on Diaz in the upcoming transfer window, the report said.

Liverpool is said to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old’s situation, while Manchester City has already contacted Porto over the player’s potential transfer.

The Colombian goal machine has been highly-touted and is considered as one of the most improved players in European football.

To date, Diaz has already racked up a total of 13 goals in 20 matches across all competitions for Porto.

However, the primary reason many have begun raving about Diaz was his remarkable series of performances in this year’s Copa America tournament.

It can be recalled that Diaz finished the prestigious South American football tournament equalling Lionel Messi’s tally of four goals.

Since then, the interest of big-name clubs on the forward has proliferated and his agent Carlos Van Strahalen is well aware of it.

"Clearly, with the great Copa América that Luis [Diaz] did, the interest of the clubs has increased, but at the moment there is nothing concrete," Van Strahalen admitted.

It is yet to be known whether Diaz has ticked all the boxes on Rangnick’s checklist.

However, one thing certain is that the Red Devils boss knows exactly what type of player he wants to sign in January.

"My opinion on winter [January] transfers is clear: it needs to be a player who would improve the quality and help the team to get better," Rangnick revealed. "So it needs to be a high-quality player no matter which area of the pitch."

"He also needs to have the right mentality, not just the right quality," the manager added. "For this competitive league, we need the best possible mentality. He needs to be mature enough, he needs to have a winning mentality. For me, the mentality is more crucial in this league than any other in the world."
