Manchester United is looking to make a run back to the top of the English Premier League table, and it has since started off great this Sunday with a pre-season win over Derby County, 2-1, thanks to goals from Tahith Chong and Facundo Pellistri.

Pellistri came in for the club as a second-half substitute, and his performance did not show his age.

Manchester United Academy graduate Shola Shoretire cut through the defense and threaded a pass to Pellistri, who just barely avoids being offside and dribbles the ball past the keeper for an easy tap-in.

It was the returning Jesse Lingard, setting the pace that allowed the two youngsters to score the goal. But Pellistri exhibited his top form, showing why he deserves to be a part of Manchester United.

“I thought he was bright and he took his goal really well,” Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjae said of Shoretire and Pellistri’s performance. “Great first touch. Good pass by Shola [Shoretire] but great first touch which sets him up. I think he showed what he is because he’s a difficult player to play against. One against one, he can go past people so I’m very pleased with him."

However, Solskjaer revealed that both Chong and Pellistri are set for loan spells as Lingard’s return and added that the impending arrival of Jadon Sancho will send Pellistri to the depths of their winger lineup.

It will be the better move for Pellistri’s development that he goes out on loan, but the player has other plans in mind.

The 19-year-old fully disagrees with this move and he has since insisted that he wants to stay at Old Trafford and to fight for his place on the roster.

“I went on loan to Alaves, I feel good, now I’m here trying my best, always pushing forward,” Pellistri told MUTV after the game.

“There is a lot of young talent, all the guys want to improve, the training is really hard and I’m very happy with that because young guys are trying their best and looking for a place in the first team.”

However, there has been a ton of interest in the market for the youngster.

“I can see a loan deal for him, there’s been loads of interest and for his best interests, a loan would be what we look for,” Solskjaer stated.
