  • Alejandro Garnacho has been at Man Utd since 2021
  • He started his soccer career at Getafe
  • Garnacho has played 15 games for Man Utd this season

Manchester United are reportedly close to extending forward Alejandro Garnacho's current contract.

Garnacho's current deal with Manchester United is until June 2024, with an option to extend by a year. The Red Devils are confident of securing a new contract for the player, reported ESPN.

The discussions between Manchester United and Garnacho's representatives are in the advanced stages over a potential improved deal for the teenage sensation, reported The Telegraph. Manchester United have been discussing Garnacho's contract since the summer but the talks have sped up now amid the player's links with Real Madrid.

The Argentinian winger started his soccer career at Getafe's youth system before moving to Atletico Madrid's academy. Garnacho received a major boost in wages following his move from the Spanish capital to Manchester in 2020. Ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, Garnacho signed his first professional contract with Manchester United. He made a few appearances with Manchester United's Under-21s before making his first-team debut the same season.

After being on the sidelines at the beginning of the ongoing season, Garnacho has turned the tables around as he has now made 15 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing six assists. The 18-year-old winger was also named in Argentina's provisional squad ahead of the World Cup.

Manchester United reportedly believe Garnacho should be given a new deal to make him a regular member of Ten Hag's side.

In Manchester United's latest 2-1 win over derby rivals Manchester City in the Premier League, Garnacho came off the bench and set up Marcus Rashford's goal that turned out to be the winner at Old Trafford.

After the game, Ten Hag praised Garnacho, saying the winger was almost unique in the Premier League.

"He has a skill that I don't see many players in the Premier League having, he beats players one on one. But he's learnt in the last months about how to play in a team, how to live, how to do the right things in the week, how to have the right attitude on the training ground and you see how he's acting as a team player and with his individual skills that can make the difference," said Ten Hag.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace on Wednesday in the Premier League. With that, the Red Devils have 39 points from 18 games in the 2022-23 Premier League. Their next game is a big one as they will travel to London to take on table toppers Arsenal on Sunday.
