KEY POINTS

  • Ajax has placed a $41.9 million price tag on forward Sebastien Haller
  • Manchester United could reunite him with then-Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford
  • The center-forward can be molded into the next Red Devils great if they can get him

Manchester United is having a fairly silent transfer window thus far despite the number of names being linked to them, and the club has now apparently learned of the asking price for Ajax forward Sebastien Haller.

90Min.com reported that the Netherlands-based Eredivisie club has set a €40 million ($41.9 million) transfer fee for Haller.

Since new permanent manager and former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag joined Manchester United in April, he has been on a mission to revamp the roster and build a worthy title contender.

Haller has experience playing in the English Premier League after spending a season with West Ham United in 2019 but failed to live up to his £42 million ($51.4 million) transfer fee.

Ten Hag and the Ajax forward reunited for the 2020-21 season and went on to win the Eredivisie league title a season later, with Haller being poised to follow his former manager to Old Trafford this summer.

Manchester United saw a ton of veteran faces leave the club to start the summer, including Uruguay forward Edinson Cavani.

While they do have Cristiano Ronaldo back on their sidelines after a long time away from the club, he is already at age 37 and it will only be a matter of time before his body starts to give up on him.

Getting Haller as the next great Manchester United forward seems to be on their bucket list and it would be smart of them to do so.

Standing at relatively the same height as Ronaldo, Haller can become the workhorse forward that the club’s offense desperately needs as a surefire threat inside the box while also having the ability to set up his teammates for goal-scoring opportunities.

However, they do have some competition in the form of Germany’s Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich also trying to box everyone out for his services.

Deals made during the summer transfer window--which opened on June 1-- will not officially go through until July 1, so Manchester United still has a few days left to work a deal with Haller to try and get the commitment of Ajax to sell him to them.

Ten Hag already has his work cut out for him, and getting Haller will surely be at the top of his priorities as he surrounds the club with players that are familiar with his system to help out those already established within the Red Devils.
