  • The Red Devils have prepared an offer for Sancho, the report added

Ahead of the next transfer window, Manchester United may already be just a few steps away from landing two major signings, a report says.

The Red Devils have seemingly improved their bargaining chips in potential transfers due to an impressive 2020-21 season. While the club is reportedly working on luring a handful of prospects, two top targets could be closing in on a sensational move to Old Trafford.

En route to his 15th season as a professional, Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton has verbally agreed to join Manchester United, Football Insider reported, citing unnamed United sources. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

After playing the last two seasons with Aston Villa, the report said that Heaton has rejected a contract extension offer from the team. Instead, the veteran goalkeeper chose to take his talents to Manchester United.

Heaton is expected to be Manchester United’s “third-choice” shotstopper as Sergio Romero is now out of the picture, while Lee Grant has yet to receive a new offer from the club, the report added.

What’s even more interesting is that Heaton is no stranger to Manchester United. The Englishman was once a Red Devil but failed to make it to the club’s first team.

Aside from Heaton, Manchester United is also advancing in its pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, according to famed transfer insider Dean Jones of Discovery-owned outlet Eurosport, citing unnamed sources.

As per Jones, amid the long courtship, Sancho’s move to Manchester United has become “more likely than ever” this time around.

“Sources close to the player are suggesting they are more confident than ever that the [Sancho to Manchester United] transfer will finally go ahead,” Jones wrote.

It can be recalled that last summer, Borussia Dortmund was able to fend off Manchester United and other big-name clubs by putting a staggering £100 million ($141 million) price tag on Sancho. Atop that, the Bundesliga side remained adamant about not letting go of the highly-rated forward.

However, Jones further revealed that Dortmund’s stance on the subject is beginning to change a bit and Sancho’s “value is now nearer the £50 million ($70.4 million) mark.”

With that in mind, Manchester United is now “preparing an opening offer of around €75 million” to the German side, as per Jones.

“The sum of €100 million ($141 million) roughly converts to £85 million ($119.8 million) but at the moment there is a feeling among intermediaries in the game that [Manchester] United’s initial offer will be somewhere in the region of £65-75 million ($91.6-105.7 million),” the insider noted.
