KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United has a chance to sign Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon and Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez
  • Reguilon is said to have been offered by Real to United
  • Gimenez could be bought by United in order for Atletico to buy players

Two La Liga stars could be headed to Manchester United soon, with new reports linking Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon and Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez to a move to the Premier League club.

As the deadline for the current transfer window approaches, United appears to be poised for two more major signings. Despite rumors linking him to another season-long loan to Sevilla, Reguilon's parent club, Real Madrid, has offered him to United, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have been in touch with Reguilon, but the talks have not reached an advanced stage yet and no concrete offers had been made.

However, 90min suggested that this could work in United's favor, giving the English side an opportunity to get Reguilon for a lower fee than what Madrid would ask for.

Talks of Reguilon moving to Old Trafford were fueled when Mason Greenwood started following him on Instagram. Reguilon got rid of details about him playing for Sevilla and Real Madrid from his Twitter and Instagram accounts, leaving a football emoji and a red love heart on his bio, Manchester Evening News noted.

Aside from Reguilon, Atletico Madrid's Gimenez is also on United’s radar this window. The Uruguayan is regarded as one of La Liga’s best defenders at present and has become a target for many clubs across Europe.

The latest reports from Spain revealed that United was initially pursuing RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano. However, it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has changed its mind regarding signing Upamecano this summer and has set its sights on Gimenez instead, Spanish outlet Don Balon reported.

United is one of the three clubs devising a plan to make a massive €60 million ($71 million) bid for Gimenez, the outlet said. It was also noted that Atletico needs to sell before they can buy players, and United is sensing an opportunity in the Spanish side’s situation.

Apart from United, Atletico also received offers from Real Madrid and Chelsea for the services of its expensive defender, reports said. However, all three clubs mentioned as Gimenez’s suitors are expected to face setbacks on his possible transfer as Atletico is said to be happy to reject any bid that will not exceed his staggering €120 million ($142 million) exit clause.

United could still afford Gimenez as sources have told ESPN that Solskjaer is believed to be planning a major clear-out that would see several players from his squad being put up for sale this current window.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils could be a few meetings away from securing the transfer deal for another top prospect, Porto’s Alex Telles.
