  • Man Utd plan to hijack Liverpool's target Alcantara this summer
  • Bayern have valued Alcantara at $35 million
  • Liverpool have agreed to personal terms with Alcantara

Manchester United are reportedly planning to beat Liverpool FC in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Over the last few weeks Alcantara has been linked with a move to Liverpool. Even though The Reds have agreed to personal terms with Alcantara, the club is yet to make an official offer due to the player’s transfer fee of $35 million. Liverpool are hesitant to shell out that much money for the midfielder, who is believed to become a free agent in about five months.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are keen on cashing in on Alcantara, who has won everything possible with the German side during his seven seasons with the Bundesliga side. Prior to the 2019-20 season, the only trophy that was missing from his cabinet was the Champions League, which was added recently when Bayern Munich defeated PSG in the 2019-20 Champions League final in Lisbon.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been an admirer of Alcantara, who has also played for Barcelona. He spent five seasons in La Liga after rising through the Catalans’ youth system. After having conquered Spain and Germany, Alcantara is looking forward to embracing a new challenge in England.

It was previously reported that due to the financial concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool had submitted lower offers that included add-ons and performance-related bonuses. But it was turned down by Bayern Munich that are maintaining its demands of $35 million.

According to German media outlet BILD, Bayern Munich have admitted that since Liverpool are delaying the final offer, they are expecting to receive offers from various other clubs. This, despite the fact that Alcantara himself is keen on a move to Anfield this summer window.

Respected Norwegian journalist Fredrik A. N. Filtvedt has revealed that apart from Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, Man Utd are also interested in acquiring the services of 29-year-old Alcantara, who’ll bring along the rich experience of 11 years of professional soccer.

"I’m told that United – in addition to Van de Beek – are interested in Thiago," the journalist wrote on social media.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to revamp his side ahead of the 2020-21 season. With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Anthony Martial, Man Utd’s attacking department looks fine. The Norwegian manager wants to bring more depth to his midfield that will be a key to providing the required support to the front line.
