  • Anthony Martial has not made much of an impact this past two seasons
  • Sevilla is edging closer to signing Martial
  • The Red Devils are strongly being linked to Erling Haaland

A shake-up in the frontline is expected to happen at Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window.

Anthony Martial’s future with the Red Devils has been uncertain since he suddenly fell out of pecking order even during the time of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The French striker made his mark at Manchester United during the 2019-20 season, having logged an impressive total of 17 goals and six assists in the English Premier League.

However, he failed to maintain his lethal form and has now become an outcast in the club.

Nevertheless, Martial still wants to play for a big club, and with Manchester United not handing him the playing time he demands, he’s now opting to leave the club in January.

“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January,” Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports News earlier this month. “He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”

At the moment, things have reached the next level and La Liga side Sevilla is now “well placed” to secure a deal for Martial in the January transfer window after having discussions with Manchester United, according to RMC Sport.

The report said that negotiations have been “progressing” and Martial is likely to join Sevilla sooner rather than later.

It is yet to be determined what type of deal will be agreed on by all parties but the report noted that the striker is “attracted” by the idea of a possible loan spell with the Spanish club.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has yet to comment on Martial’s link-up with Sevilla, but he had already revealed his firm stance on players not being fully committed to staying at Old Trafford.

"Players have to want to stay and play for the club," Rangnick told Sky Sports. "For a big club like Manchester United, if a player does not want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don't think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.

"This is such a massive club [with] such fantastic support, I don't think that anyone in the club should then try to convince the player to stay,” the coach continued.

With Martial possibly leaving, another striker is rumored to be joining Manchester United as Rangnick is reportedly pushing for the transfer of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland next year.
