  • Edinson Cavani has constantly been linked to a move away from Manchester United
  • Barcelona is said to have already agreed to terms with Cavani
  • The Uruguayan legend is reportedly planning to ditch Barca for a return to his homeland

Barcelona could be finally closing in on landing a striker who can help solve the club’s lack of firepower in goal-scoring.

Since the departure of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez, Barcelona has yet to find a well-rounded forward who can score goals in any given situation.

Sergio Aguero could’ve been of great help, but the Argentine was forced to retire due to health problems.

Fortunately, the Catalans have found the perfect man for the job in Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani, Spanish outlet Diario Sport reported.

According to the report, Barca has already “reached an agreement in principle” with Cavani to sign him for “a season and a half” deal in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Spanish outfit is just waiting for Manchester United to greenlight the Uruguayan striker’s move in” the next few weeks.”

Barcelona also has “other options on the table” but has decided to pursue Cavani given his situation is less complicated compared to others and has been deemed as "a relatively affordable alternative,” the report said.

However, even if Barcelona managed to complete the transfer of Cavani, he might not stay at the Camp Nou for long and could only play for the Catalans until the end of the current season at most, according to Marca.

The report added that Cavani would fancy continuing the current campaign with Barcelona and nothing else as he prefers a quick switch to one of the clubs on his home soil in the summer.

Among the clubs being mentioned at the moment are Boca Juniors, Penarol and Corinthians.

Cavani’s current deal with Manchester United is set to expire next summer, but rumors have been swirling around claiming that this will be his final season with the Red Devils.

If Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is to be the one to decide on Cavani’s future, he will opt to have the world-class striker on his squad at least until the end of the season.

"They're both top players,” the German coach said of Cavani and Raphael Varane when providing an update on their injuries. “Of course we would be happy to have them on board as soon as possible but, especially with Rapha and his injury record in the past, we need to make sure that we will have him until the end of the season, so it is also about sustainability and not only getting him fit as soon as possible."

"It would be great to have both players available as soon as possible, but obviously for the rest of the season," he added.
