  • Tottenham wants to swing a loan deal for Barcelona's Miralem Pjanic, a report said
  • Spurs director Fabio Paratici reportedly made contact with Barca over the said loan move
  • Pjanic has been vocal about his frustrations over his playing time with the Catalans

Tottenham is said to be interested in bolstering its squad with a Barcelona outcast.

While Harry Kane’s seemingly difficult situation is still Tottenham’s top priority, the club is still keen on adding a few worthy signings this summer.

The Spurs have already begun their team overhaul starting with the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as new manager. Now, the Londoners are exploring a potential deal for Barcelona’s Miralem Pjanic, Sport reported. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Tottenham’s newly appointed sporting director Fabio Paratici has made contact with the Catalans over a possible loan deal for Pjanic, the report said.

However, apart from the challenge of convincing Barcelona to send Pjanic out on loan, Tottenham might also have to weigh things up as the midfielder’s current salary of £271,000 ($375,000) per week would ultimately make him the highest-paid Spurs player so far.

Prior to Tottenham, Chelsea was reportedly pursuing Pjanic as well. However, nothing concrete has happened to this day.

Pjanic joined Barcelona last year in a sensational swap deal that sent Arthur Melo to Serie A side Juventus. However, the Bosnian has failed to make an impact on Ronald Koeman’s squad, having been reduced in activity from 30 league matches in the 2019-20 season to 19 in the past campaign.

Expressing his thoughts on the matter, Pjanic lashed out on his lack of playing time at Barcelona.

“It’s 100% evident I’m not satisfied and I can’t be, in my career I’ve never accepted the idea of not playing and I don’t even do it now,” Pjanic told La Gazzetta Dello Sport in December 2020.

Months went by but Pjanic’s situation with the Catalans barely changed. In March, the 31-year-old snapped once again and revealed how Barcelona ditched him for Antoine Griezmann in the past.

"I had to wait to live the dream of being a Barca player,” he said. “I came to Barca because of my game and my experience as a winner, that's what they asked me to contribute when I signed. They told me that my character and my experience would be vital to grow a generation of young people from La Masia who were climbing very strongly."

Despite being frustrated over his current role in the club, the four-time Serie A champion insisted that he isn’t leaving Camp Nou.

"I did not sign for Barca to leave the following year," the former Juventus playmaker pointed out. "I signed to make history in a club that had been on my path for many years."
