KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United is on the lookout for a credible striker
  • The Red Devils is expected to make a swoop for PAOK star Christos Tzolis
  • Solskjaer's side is urged to sign Harry Kane and not Erling Haaland

With rumors swirling Manchester United is looking to bolster its attack, the club is now interested in a highly-regarded striker from Greece.

Bruno Fernandes has been Manchester United’s top goal scorer this season. However, recent reports have revealed that the Red Devils are keen on adding a well-rounded goal scorer into its squad.

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been viewed as a top prospect for Manchester United, but a report from Greece revealed that the English outfit is plotting a move for PAOK Salonika’s Christos Tzolis , Greek outlet Sportime reported.

According to the report, Tzolis, who already has four Greece caps to his name at the tender age of 19, has drawn attention for top European clubs, including Manchester United and Bundesliga’s Dortmund.

The German outfit is said to have “repeatedly” checked Tzolis’ situation. The Red Devils, on the other hand, has added the Greek striker into its transfer wish list, having been always on the lookout for the next breakthrough talent.

The report also pointed out that the signing of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo last summer, strongly suggests that Manchester United has been aggressively hunting an attacker and Tzolis presents a strong case.

The PAOK star is expected to be valued at around €20 million ($24 million), a figure deemed to be not too overwhelming for Manchester United.

In his two years at PAOK, Tzolis has already proven his nose for goals, having notched six goals in 31 appearances for the Greek side.

Meanwhile, veteran pundit Paul Merson doesn’t think Solskjaer can finally win a title for Manchester United if he keeps on chasing strikers from outside the Premier League.

According to Merson, the Red Devils should “only” pursue Tottenham’s Harry Kane as the England captain has already dominated a highly-competitive league.

“If I’m Manchester United, I’m doing all I can to buy [Harry] Kane,” Merson said in his recent column for Sky Sports. “I know Erling Haaland is on a lot of radars, but there should be only one person on Manchester United’s radar: Harry Kane.”

“Because Kane has done it, year in, year out, in this relentless league,” he added. "Who is to know Haaland is going to hit the ground running in this league? You don’t have time in this league. Timo Werner was scoring goals left, right, and center, but came here (in the Premier League) and has struggled.”

“Manchester United needs to win the league now, not in five or six years,” the pundit concluded, “Don’t get me wrong, Haaland is an unbelievable prospect. But for me it’s a no brainer–I’d want to win the league now!”
