  • Cristiano Ronaldo is edging closer to his Manchester United debut this season
  • An insider said Jesse Lingard is still working on becoming one of Solskjaer's attacking options
  • West Ham United have voiced their interest in signing Lingard

A Manchester United attacker could be feeling the pressure and hoping not to be left out as Cristiano Ronaldo nears arrival.

Ronaldo is just a few days away from his highly-anticipated Manchester United return. The Portugal captain has already joined the club’s senior team in training and is now set for his second debut with the Red Devils.

However, it seems like not everyone in Manchester United is thrilled to have more world-class players injected into the squad, particularly Jesse Lingard.

According to famed transfer insider and Eurosport’s Dean Jones, the attacking midfielder is well aware of how things could play out this season with Manchester United’s attack bolstered.

Jones stressed that Lingard is still trying to “force” his way through.

"I think he [Lingard] wants to try and force a way into the [Manchester] United team,” Jones exclusively told Give Me Sport. “That's what he's trying to do and that's why he's staying. He's been there since he was a kid, he doesn't want to just give up on it."

He continued, "I think he's just waiting for that platform to see if he can do it and needs to wait for an opportunity at United this season."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to reveal his concrete plans for Lingard now that Ronaldo is coming in and the frontline is filled with formidable strikers.

"There’s nothing better than seeing players willing to fight for their place,” Solskajer said on the club's official website during pre-season. “Of course, what he did towards the end of the season, that is the true Jesse.”

"That’s what we know he is capable of,” he added. “I think we saw towards the end [of our own season] that we lacked maybe some options at times. He's still in my plans. I expect him at Man United at the start of the season."

Should things don’t go Lingard’s way, his former loaning club West Ham United will certainly be swooping in once again for his services.

"Jesse is a Manchester United player," West Ham manager David Moyes said last month. "I mean the questions are not for me, the questions are for Manchester United. But you know we enjoyed having him.”

"If the opportunity arose for us to get Jesse we would be interested, but in my mind, he's at Manchester United and it is not for us to discuss," he pointed out.
