  • Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic has started to decline in form this season

A Serie A defender is hoping to revamp his career by joining Manchester United, a report says.

After feeling that his fine form is slowly slipping away at Fiorentina, Nikola Milenkovic is looking to find new hope outside the Italian top flight.

Manchester United is expected to make a swoop for a credible defender in the next transfer window. With that in mind, Milenkovic is “tempted” to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported (via The Faithful MUFC).

According to the report, the Viola is having a hard time convincing Milenkovic to renew his contract mainly because he is yearning for a move to Old Trafford.

The report adds that Serie A giants AC Milan has also been keeping tabs on Milenkovic, but Manchester United has better chances of signing the center-back due to “economic concerns.”

The 23-year-old’s current deal with Fiorentina is set to expire in the summer of 2022. However, it was earlier reported that the Italian outfit could let Milenkovic go for a fee of around £35 million ($49 million) this coming summer.

Last season, the Serbian international was instrumental to Fiorentina, having been a key figure in the club’s 10 wins. He managed to score five goals in the process. However, Milenkvoc seems to have lost his rhythm this season, having only netted two goals to his name in 21 league starts to date.

The need to bolster the central defense has been a priority for Manchester United, The Athletic reported. While the Red Devils haven’t really launched a concrete bid for any notable defender yet, the club could be freeing up space for a new signing at the moment.

Recent reports revealed that Man United has deemed summer signing Alex Telles as a “flop” after the Brazilian failed to make his mark in Solskjaer’s side.

In his debut season with the Red Devils, Telles has only been handed seven matches, six of which as a starter. The former Porto star’s days at Old Trafford could soon be over after rumors have started to link him to a move to Inter Milan, Sport Witness reported.

Telles has found opportunities rather hard to come by at Man United, having not played in the league since the club’s 2-1 loss to Sheffield United in January.

It has been said that Manchester United has already offered Telles to Inter, intending a possible swap deal to sign Marcelo Brozovic in exchange.
