  • Greenwood could exceed Ronaldo's goal stat in Man United

A Manchester United youngster has earned comparisons to the club’s former superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, after a stunning goal-scoring performance.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side already houses an array of talented players. However, United is still one of the clubs headlining the transfer rumors for this summer. But after the win against Brighton, former Man United forward Dimitar Berbatov has concluded that the Red Devils may not need another impressive signing as they already have their “next Cristiano Ronaldo.”

On June 30, Manchester United thumped Brighton and ended the match with a 3-0 win. Surprisingly, one of the most notable performers was young goalscorer Mason Greenwood.

The 18-year-old started for the Red Devils and opened up the scoring for the team in the 16th minute of the game. He then revealed his playmaking skills when he set up Bruno Fernandes for another wonderful goal, completing an inch-perfect chipped assist.

Greenwood’s remarkable performance didn’t go unnoticed and even saw him being likened to one of the club’s most legendary players, “CR7.”

According to ex-United player Berbatov, the talented youngster put on such a tremendous show that Solskjaer shouldn’t be looking for another striker. Berbatov told Mirror Football that Greenwood’s overall performance against the Seagulls was reminiscent of a young Ronaldo’s.

"Greenwood, against Brighton, was like Ronaldo. His left foot is unbelievable along with his vision. I don't think many signings are needed to take United to that next level,” Berbatov emphasized.

Even United boss Solskjaer lauded Greenwood, but he also didn’t want to rush his development with the team.

"He's getting better. You can see clearly that he's maturing and improving, he's only 18 still so we will see more from him,” Solskjaer said of Greenwood.

While the British sensation impressed with his left foot against Brighton, he has already proven that he can score goals with both feet in the past.

Greenwood could also exceed Ronaldo in terms of goals scored as a United player. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner did not reach double figures for the Red Devils until his third campaign, while Greenwood already has a total of eight goals in his very first season with the club.

Man United also managed to secure a win against Bournemouth on Saturday (July 4). Greenwood had another impressive game, notably making “heroics in front of goal.” However, United failed to up its defense as it reportedly conceded two sloppy goals.
