KEY POINTS

  • Man Utd secured a crucial point against Leeds
  • Rashford and Sancho scored for Man Utd
  • Man Utd defender Varane scored an own goal

Manchester United came from behind to draw 2-2 with Leeds United in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Leeds went 1-0 up in the first minute after kick-off, thanks to Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto's goal. Even though Manchester United went into the game at Old Trafford as favorites, their game appeared to have ended when their center-back Raphael Varane turned Crysencio Summerville's cutback into his own net to make it 2-0 for Leeds.

In the 62nd minute, Marcus Rashford pulled one back for the Red Devils before Jadon Sancho, returning to first-team duties, scored a memorable equalizer. Sancho, who was away from Erik ten Hag's side for a few months as he was dealing with physical and mental issues, scored his first Premier League goal since September.

Let's take a look at 5 talking points from Manchester United 2-2 Leeds United:

Wilfried Gnonto's goal

The 19-year-old forward had scored just one goal and an assist in Leeds' previous nine matches. However, he made an instant impact Wednesday at Old Trafford as his goal within 55 seconds was the second-earliest goal scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League, after Edin Dzeko's strike for Manchester City (43 seconds) in March 2014.

Red Devils' frustrating first half

Despite conceding two goals, Manchester United were not rattled and continued to create chances. However, in their 11 attempted shots, they hit the target just three times. Marcel Sabitzer's long-range effort was their only decent chance as they failed to break through the managerless-Leeds' defense.

Erik ten Hag's timely substitutions

Soon after the two goals from Leeds, Ten Hag decided to make the substitutions. Alejandro Garnacho and Wout Weghorst were clearly struggling. Garnacho lost the ball several times, while Weghorst was barely involved in the game to make an impact.

Sancho and debutant Facundo Pellistri came on for the hosts just before the hour's mark and made an instant impact. Pellistri was not scared to run at Leeds' defenders, while Sancho scored the equalizer for United in the 70th minute.

Jadon Sancho's return

Being away for nearly three months, Ten Hag had put Sancho in an individual training program to get the English winger back to the level required to play in the Premier League. The hard work that Sancho put in to get himself back to the highest level certainly paid off on Wednesday as his equalizer earned Manchester United a crucial point.

Marcus Rashford continues to shine

Rashford became the first Manchester United player to score in six consecutive appearances at Old Trafford in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney in April 2012. Rashford has netted 20 goals and eight assists in 33 matches in all competitions this season.
