The marriage between Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau will officially come to an end in August as the couple legally separates from each other. According to court documents, the couple will participate in an arbitration hearing that will be held “no later than August 1, 2019.”

Letourneau, 57, and Fualaau, 35, were married in 2005 and had two children together by the time that he was 15 years old. The couple was involved in a sexual relationship when Faulaau was 12 years old, and Letourneau was his sixth-grade teacher. Letourneau served seven years in prison for child rape as a result of their relationship and is a registered sex offender in Washington.

Fualaau filed for legal separation in 2017. The couple have tried to reconcile their differences, but their attempts were unsuccessful. The case has now been moved to private arbitration, where Letourneau and Faulaau will have an arbitrator, who will make the final decision “on all issues needed to resolve a legal separation.”

“That’s the end date,” a source close to Letourneau told People. “They’re both looking forward to getting on with their lives.”
