Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding was more expensive than Kate Middleton and Prince William’s.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are the future king and queen. They had a grand wedding in 2011 when they exchanged “I dos” at Westminster Abbey in London. However, it turned out that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a more fancy nuptial.

According to Sarra Gray of Express, Prince William and Middleton’s wedding only cost $29 million. Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding expenses were $10 million more because they spent a whooping $39.6 million for their big day.

Middleton’s Alexander McQueen wedding dress with a fitted bodice, lace sleeves and nine-foot-long train was estimated to cost $309,000. Meanwhile, Markle’s Givency bridal gown by Clare Waight Keller that featured a simple satin design with off-the-shoulder neckline was estimated to cost an eye-watering $479,000.

The floral budget at Prince William and Middleton’s wedding was estimated to be around $990,000 while the security was estimated to be between $21 to $40 million.

On the other hand, Prince Harry and Markle spent $61,895 for the cake, $136,169 for the florist and $354,000 for the catering. The security cost for their eventful day was also estimated to cost more due to the location.

According to Dai Davies, former Head of Royal Protection and Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police service, all types of people flock the Windsor Castle and the area is more difficult to secure.

“Windsor is a much harder area to secure than London, which is so much better prepared. In Windsor, there are shops, buildings, houses, you name it and there is a history of people trying to get into Windsor Castle,” he told E! News.

“The greatest risk comes from those people that we call ‘fixated’, i.e., mentally ill people, who could think, for whatever reason, that a white prince shouldn’t marry a black woman.”

Markle’s wedding tiara was also more expensive than the one Middleton wore on her special day. According to Debora Papas, a jewelry expert, Middleton’s Cartier Halo tiara cost between $936,000 to $1,560,276. Meanwhile, Markle’s headpiece, the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara, cost $2.5 million.
