Meghan Markle lied about Ashley Cole pursuing her, according to his brother.

Katie Hind revealed that Markle used to crave for a gossip column coverage. Her publicist reached out to Hind so she could feature the then-actress on her column.

They had a great encounter, and Hind felt that Markle was very interested in making friends with her. During their interview, they talked about Ashley Cole.

Markle asked Hind if she knew Cole because the footballer kept on trying to talk to her on Twitter and was “trying really hard.” Since Hind was aware of Cole’s romance, marriage and divorce, she discouraged Markle from entertaining the athlete.

Cole’s brother, Matty Cole, reacted to Markle’s statement. According to him, the Duchess of Sussex’s claim was false.

“It’s nonsense, completely made up. He definitely wouldn’t have to beg Meghan Markle for a date,” Matty told The Sun. “She’s not the kind of girl he goes for anyway, and he’s never fancied her.”

Hind published the report following Markle’s emotional interview on ITV documentary. The duchess got candid as she complained about the treatment she received from the press.

“It isn’t easy to reconcile the Meghan who appeared so at ease talking candidly with a tabloid journalist she had never previously met with the Duchess on our screens last weekend who spoke of her hatred for the British tabloids. Had contempt hidden behind the hugs on that rooftop bar six years ago? Did her smiles really mask a snarl of disgust?” Hind wrote. “Or is it that, as the Duchess of Sussex, she no longer needs the gossip column coverage that plain Meghan Markle once craved?”

In related news, according to Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast, Markle broke a royal protocol when she agreed to do a one-on-one interview during her visit to the Luminary Bakery. According to Sykes, it was a “major breach of royal protocol.” The Queen has never done it and Prince William and Kate Middleton are very keen on avoiding it. However, Prince Charles does it on rare occasions.
