  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are spending quality time with their son Archie during the lockdown
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that they witnessed all of Archie's firsts
  • Markle earlier said that their 1-year-old son loves birds and often keeps them on their toes

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed some of their son Archie's milestones and said they felt lucky to have been able to witness all his firsts.

On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in a video call with Malala Yousafzai for the International Day of the Girl. During their chat, Markle and Prince Harry talked about one upside to being stuck at home due to the lockdown: being able to spend more time with their only child.

"We were both there for his first steps, his first run, his first fall, his first everything," Prince Harry shared.

"It’s just fantastic, because I think in so many ways, we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow and in the absence of COVID, we would be traveling and working more externally and we’d miss a lot of those moments," Markle said. "It’s been a lot of really good family time."

Prince Harry and Markle revealed another tidbit about their son, whom they welcomed in May last year, during their interview on the "Teenager Therapy" podcast on Saturday.

The Duke of Sussex can be heard saying, "I can make bird noises if you want," as their son stirred.

"He loves birds… Archie loves birds," Markle revealed.

Markle also shared an update about Archie when she talked about how they were doing at home during the pandemic in an interview with the U.K.'s Evening Standard earlier this month.

"We are very lucky with our little one. He is just so busy, he is all over the place. He keeps us on our toes. We are just so lucky," Markle said at the time.

Prince Harry and Markle have permanently settled down in the U.S. after stepping down as senior royals in January, moving into their mansion in Montecito, California, in July.

The royal couple's decision to choose a home in Santa Barbara has been praised by many, including luxury property specialist Cristal Clarke. According to Clarke, Montecito is "one of the safest and most family-friendly communities surrounded by security fencing, entered via gated driveways and secluded from view by tall hedges and other lush landscaping."

The realtor also said the Sussexes do not have to worry about getting too much attention as the other residents of the neighborhood are accustomed to having high-profile neighbors, such as Ellen DeGeneres and Rob Lowe.
