Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had a “completely incoherent” plan that was hardly the definition of financial independence.

A few days ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they are stepping down from their royal roles. Their statement was a shock to many including to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles as the couple didn’t inform them of their plans ahead. In their announcement, Prince Harry and Markle said that they will work to be “financially independent.”

However, according to Evening Standard, the couple’s plan was “completely incoherent.” Prince Harry and Markle have reportedly told the Prince of Wales that they wanted to live largely in Canada but wanted to keep their home in Frogmore Cottage. The heir apparent asked them to email their plans to him and it turned out that their money didn’t stack up.

“Taxpayers would still be forking out millions of pounds for round-the-clock security, and the tax perks that go with a grace-and-favour home. The Duchy of Cornwall would still be providing the bulk of the income, hardly most people’s definition of financial independence,” the report read.

The family wanted to know if Prince Harry and Markle had already signed commercial deals because they suspected they had. However, the Sussexes didn’t want to discuss any of it and went on with their surprising announcement.

According to Express, Prince Harry and Markle have already built over $500 million empire months before leaving the royal family. The royal couple filed for a trademark for Sussex Royal brand months ago and they have reportedly already used the trademark on over 100 items including pencils, socks and bookmarks. They also want to stamp their name on dozens of other products.

Retail expert Andy Barr is convinced that Prince Harry and Markle’s earnings will be bigger than Prince Charles due to their global appeal. However, he said that it will also be interesting how the royal couple will fare against the American tabloids without the full backing of the royal press office as they are notorious admirers of the British monarchy.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly furious and disappointed at Prince Harry and Markle because they didn’t consult any senior members of the royal family with their plans. The members of the Firm only learned about it when it was reported on TV.
