During Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 10-day tour of Africa, the members of the British royal family commanded quite a bit of attention. From sharing a secret about her past to breaking "royal tour tradition," the Duchess of Sussex continued to fascinate royal watchers. Fans likely noticed that the former "Suits" actress opted to forgo her diamond engagement ring as well while making her royal visits. What inspired her to remove it?

According to Express, the Duchess exchanged her diamond engagement ring for a simpler turquoise piece because she wanted to seem more "low-key" when meeting new people. Additionally, the specific type of stone itself may send a "powerful message" as it is said to symbolize "strength, friendship, and protection."

The temporary replacement for her engagement ring is believed to have been created by American jeweler Jennifer Meyer and cost roughly £200 (about $246.57 U.S. dollars). In contrast, her actual engagement ring is said to be worth about £140,000 (approximately $172,596.20 U.S. dollars).

This would not be the first time that the Duchess of Sussex opted to go in a specific direction regarding her fashion choices. While on her royal Africa tour, she also decided to wear a certain pair of shoes in order to give a subtle nod to her life outside of the royal family and sent additional messages in order to highlight certain issues that are important to her.
