  • Meghan Markle's friend, Jessica Mulroney, has stepped away from a charity she co-founded
  • This came after she was accused by Sasha Exeter of threatening her
  • Markle and Mulroney's friendship allegedly had a crack prior to this mess

Meghan Markle’s BFF and stylist, Jessica Mulroney, has reportedly stepped down from a charity that she and her sisters-in-law have founded in the wake of her controversial white privilege remarks.

Page Six reported that the Canadian fashion guru has quit The Shoebox Project after she was accused by black influencer Sasha Exeter of threatening her career and silencing her using her power. This news also came as outlets continue to report on the fate of her and Markle’s friendship.

Jessica, whose husband is Ben Mulroney, the son of former prime minister of Canada Brian Mulroney, founded the charity in 2011. Other founders are Vanessa, Katy and Caroline Mulroney, who is currently the Ontario Minister of Transportation and Minister of Francophone Affairs.

“Jessica Mulroney is a founding member of The Shoebox Project and she has dedicated herself to its growth and success over the years, for which we are very grateful. In light of recent events, the charity supports Jessica’s decision to step away from the Board of Directors,” the statement of the charity said.

The Shoebox Project gives away $50 boxes to women and homeless people. Despite the charity’s announcement, the website still continues to display Jessica’s photo.

The mess began when Exeter called for silent influencers to speak out on Black Lives Matter in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Although the influencer didn’t drop a name in her post, Mulroney apparently took offense to her statement and sent the social media star “a trail of offensive messages.”

Exeter then made the whole conversation public in a 12-minute video posted on Instagram on June 10. She revealed that Mulroney allegedly threatened her livelihood by saying she had already talked to companies and brands that are working with Exeter.

“You think your voice matters, well it only matters if you express it with kindness and without shaming people who are simply trying to learn. Good luck,” Mulroney reportedly said, according to Exeter.

People were quick to ask how Jessica’s friendship with Markle is faring, considering the Duchess of Sussex has been vocal about her intolerance of racism. Sources, however, have pointed out that their relationship has been on the rocks prior to the stylist’s “white privilege” controversy.

In fact, the insider, as per Page Six, said that Markle was simply waiting for an excuse to cut off Mulroney, who has allegedly been benefitting from their connection.
