Microsoft is planning to integrate ChatGPT into Office 365. Having made a big financial commitment to OpenAI, the company that created the chatbot, Microsoft believes the technology underpinning it is the future.

Currently, the tech giant is reportedly in discussions to add ChatGPT to "Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other products" so that users can generate text automatically using short commands. This endeavor follows a related and ostensibly unsuccessful attempt to incorporate artificial intelligence tools to generate emails and papers using the OpenAI machine-learning models, on which ChatGPT is also based.

How does the integration help Office365 subscribers?

While artificial intelligence has come a long way since the days of Microsoft's Clippy and other office assistants, there is still a fear that AI could replicate those issues while also introducing new problems, such as writing mistakes. This is a well-understood problem at Microsoft, as its "editor technology" fares poorly against superior solutions like Grammarly.

OpenAI's GPT model, however, could help Microsoft deliver more accurate search results to its Outlook email subscribers and analyze data in Excel and translate text. For example, GPT can understand the intent of a search even if the subscriber does not use the exact keywords that are in the relevant emails.

The revision assistant could also be used to suggest possible responses to other emails, and give feedback about papers that need less jargon.

In general, the writing would be easier to understand. It might even be used to "compose large tracts of text in response to a prompt," similar to how ChatGPT works.

How can small businesses benefit from ChatGPT?

  • Customers don't have to wait for the next available operator when chatbots are a part of the communication strategy around-the-clock.
  • Chatbots can instantaneously and concurrently manage the inquiries of thousands of clients, which reduces average response times.
  • Chatbot adoption can assist organizations to maintain a high level of consistency in responses and enhance client engagement with the brand.
  • AI-powered bots have omnichannel messaging support capabilities that enable customers to contact businesses via a variety of online channels, including Facebook and websites.
  • By conversing with clients one-on-one, keeping a conversational tone, and excelling at interactive communication, bots can make sure that there is a hint of personalization.

What is ChatGPT?

The ChatGPT chatbot is a powerful and sophisticated artificial intelligence tool that can understand and respond to human language. It was created by the research firm OpenAI and is based on the GPT-3.5 language model. On Nov. 30, 2022, the chatbot was unveiled as a prototype, and quickly gained popularity among users. Within the first week of its launch, ChatGPT crossed over a million users.
