A new Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 configuration shows up in a leak recently, suggesting that the premium device might be available with six or eight-core AMD Ryzen Renoir APUs and able to deliver a lot of power in the ultra-portable but premium computing machine.

Based on the leaked details from the Geekbench benchmark site, the Surface Laptop 4 was tested on the Renoir platform despite that its processor's name is AMD Ryzen 5 3580U Microsoft Surface Edition. Many believe that the Ryzen 5 3580U is just a placeholder since it does not feature six cores and twelve threads, as revealed in Geekbench listings. The device's base variant features 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, but this is yet unconfirmed.

On Geekbench 5, the Surface Laptop 4 tested with AMD Ryzen 5 3580 processor scored 1063 points in a single-core test and 5726 points on a multi-core test. While it does not directly say what the machine is capable of, it reveals how powerful it is. For the sake of comparison, the same device running on an Intel processor scored 1343 and 4970 on the single and multi-core tests.

According to Wccftech, Microsoft could allow the 6-core AMD Ryzen processor to function at higher clock speeds. As a result, the device could deliver improved performance in different scenarios, the site adds.

In January, Windows Central reported that the Surface Laptop 4 houses Intel's 11th Generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors. It claimed that the device would feature the custom Surface Edition with AMD Ryzen 5 and AMD Ryzen 7 processors. Microsoft will apparently release a 13.5-inch model running on AMD Ryzen 5 chip, according to the report.

The upcoming Surface Laptop 4 is reportedly scheduled to release in the Spring of 2021, specifically in the middle of April.

In terms of pricing, the upcoming premium laptop will be sold at a starting price of $999 for the 13.5-inch model with AMD Ryzen 5 CPU. Meanwhile, the 15-inch model will be available at a starting price of $1,299. It is worth noting that these details about Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 are not official, and fans should take them with a pinch of salt.
