The Republican Governors Association spent $19 million helping Rick Scott get re-elected the governor of Florida. It was the most expensive state election for the organization, which is led by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Scott and Democrat Charlie Crist has been locked in a tight campaign for months. The Republican eked out a victory, defeating Crist by less than 2 points. The RGA tweeted Tuesday night to mark the occasion.

Christie showed up to campaign for Scott. Helping Scott -- and the state's Republican apparatus -- could pay dividends for Christie during an expected 2016 presidential run.

Christie raised a record amount for the RGA, some of it from contractors who do business with New Jersey.

Allies of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker had complained that the RGA wasn't spending enough to help him win reelection. Christie and Walker made a show of solidarity, and Walker won reelection by a large margin.
