  • Mike Tyson said undefeated super middleweight Edgar Berlanga could be at his best if he can maintain his KO power throughout the fight
  • Berlanga knocked all his 15 opponents out in the first round
  • The undefeated boxer is confident he could soon fight the likes of Canelo Alvarez

Former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson gave super middleweight Edgar Berlanga a piece of advice on how to become a better fighter.

Berlanga, who has an undefeated professional record of 15-0-0, is on the verge of becoming boxing’s future superstar.

The hard-hitting super middleweight has never reached the second round as he has knocked all his opponents out cold in the first round. On the undercard of the recent Teofimo Lopez vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko fight, Berlanga added Lanell Bellows to his growing list of first-round victims.

Among the most notable boxing personalities who noticed Berlanga’s power was his fellow New Yorker “Iron Mike.”

Speaking to Boxingscene.com after the fight, Tyson lauded the “sensational” pugilist but pointed out that he can still improve his game if he could maintain the same amount of power throughout the entire fight.

"[Edgar] Berlanga looked sensational," Tyson stated. "But he will be at his best when he can knock a guy out like that in the tenth round like he did in the first round."

Veteran boxing coach Jose Bonilla , on the other hand, thinks that Berlanga’s power would be tested once he comes across a legitimate contender in his division.

“What has been seen is that he hits very hard,” Bonilla said of Berlanga. “You have to hit hard in order to deliver 15 knockouts in the first round. But to be able to really evaluate him, you have to see him with someone who takes him into deep waters.”

Tyson himself was once in Berlanga’s shoes. “The Baddest Man on the Planet” began his career with 19 consecutive knockout wins, 12 of those came in the first round.

Like Tyson, Berlanga also eyes to share the ring with some of the biggest names in the stacked 168-pound weight class.

The 23-year-old might still be a long away from getting a chance to fight the likes of reigning WBA super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. But “The Chosen One” is confident that it will happen in the future.

“Canelo Alverez (in a possibility) and obviously [David] Benevidez is a great fighter,” the undefeated boxer recently told Sirius XM’s AK and Barak. “Caleb Plant is a great fighter, as well. These types of guys are the guys that I am going to be facing in the future very soon. They are going to be mega fights, and I am going to be happy.”

As much as he wants to make the biggest fights happen, Berlanga also went straight-forward with his desire to pocket a huge paycheck out of them.

“I’m the type of fighter that I like to make fights happen,” he stated. “If it makes sense and the money is good, then why not.”
