There has been a never-ending supply of drama in their lives in recent weeks and months, but now, as their fears that one of their own is spiraling start to take hold, the real reasons for his destructive behavior could be confronted on “A Million Little Things”

Gary (James Roday) has not been doing well since he and Maggie (Allison Miller) split up, participating in a series of hookups and one-night stands on the ABC series and also participating in other destructive behaviors—including fighting a man who confronted Rome (Romany Malco) at Sophie’s (Lizzy Greene) softball game and getting them both arrested as a result. Now, with a preview clip for Season 2, Episode 12, “Guilty,” showing the gang approaching him and making sure he gets some help as he continues to breakdown, it seems he will decide to approach the person he actually blames most for any of his troubles—his absentee mother.

“Gary takes a big step and confronts his past,” a synopsis for the episode reveals.

With Marcia Gay Harden joining the cast as his mother, it seems he will actually be going to see her, which could open a whole new bunch of problems and issues for him that he has repressed and put him on a darker path—or it could finally help get himself back together and on the path he was on before his break-up and losing his job.

Meanwhile, he won’t be the only one facing a big confrontation. While Regina (Christina Moses) will once again be at odds with her mother (Romy Rosemont) as she reveals the plans she and Rome have to adopt a child together, Maggie will also be confronting an ugly secret of her own—the one Eric (Jason Ritter) has been keeping about not really being the recipient of her brother’s heart.

“Maggie finally talks to Eric,” the synopsis states.

“A Million Little Things” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
