A minor girl poisoned her family and ran away with her boyfriend after they opposed to their relationship. The incident took place in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

Police said the unidentified minor girl mixed poison in food being prepared for the family. On Tuesday night, seven members of the family fell unconscious after consuming the poison-laced food. The family members included the girl’s mother, her four siblings, sister-in-law and her nephew. The family was rushed to a nearby hospital where they were undergoing treatment. Following this, the girl’s father filed a police complaint.

"Since the girl is a minor, we have registered a case against the accused Arvind Kumar under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and have started investigating the case. We are also conducting searches to locate the girl,” police said.

The girl’s family was against the relationship and her father had filed a case of rape against the girl’s boyfriend. Following the complaint, the man was jailed in December 2018. However, while out on bail, the man threatened the family of dire consequence if they opposed their relationship. The girl and her boyfriend were at large as of Thursday.

The incident comes less than a month after a 15-year-old girl killed her father and set him ablaze with the help of her boyfriend for opposing to their relationship. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The girl gave her father poison-laced milk before stabbing him to death with the help of her boyfriend. The duo then dragged the man’s body to the bathroom and set it ablaze.
