KEY POINTS

  • The Dodgers and Yankees are co-favorites to win the World Series
  • Ten teams have at least 20/1 World Series odds
  • Five teams have an over/under win total of at least 34 in the 60-game season

Even for a shortened 60-game season that might be as unpredictable as any year in MLB history, two teams stand out as the overwhelming favorites. The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are tied with the best odds—by a significant margin—to win the 2020 World Series.

Both Los Angeles and New York have +350 championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook. No other team even has +1000 title odds.

The Dodgers made the biggest trade of the offseason, acquiring 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price. The Yankees signed the top free agent, inking ace Gerrit Cole to a nine-year, $324 million contract.

Playing in the easier division, L.A. has the highest over/under win total at 37.5.

Neither the Dodgers nor the Yankees reached last year’s Fall Classic. The Houston Astros did, coming just short of winning their second title in three years. Following the fallout from their cheating scandal, Houston is MLB’s clear third contender with +1100 World Series odds and an over/under win total of 34.5.

Five teams have better World Series odds than the defending champion Washington Nationals. Washington isn’t even favored in its own division. That honor belongs to the Atlanta Braves, who have won two straight NL East titles.

The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are two of 10 teams that have +2000 World Series odds or better. Cincinnati won 75 games in the 2019 season, marking its sixth straight year with a losing record.

The Milwaukee Brewers (+4000) are considered to be the biggest long shots of any team that made the 2019 playoffs. It would be a surprise if the Boston Red Sox (+5000) contend for a title.

Seven teams are projected to win 25 games or fewer. The Baltimore Orioles are thought to be the worst team in baseball.
