The 2022 MLB season starts the same way that each of the last few years have begun. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the clear favorites, entering Opening Day with the best World Series odds and the highest projected win total in all of baseball.

After winning two-thirds of their games over the last three seasons, the Dodgers lead all teams with an over/under win total of 98.5 wins at FanDuel Sportsbook. Los Angeles has better than 5/1 odds to win the 2022 World Series, coming off its fifth trip to the NLCS in six seasons.

The Houston Astros have made five straight ALCS appearances with three World Series appearances during that span. Houston is tied for second in MLB with a projected win total of 92.5 wins, though the Astros don’t have the best championship odds in the American League.

The Toronto Blue Jays own that distinction with +850 World Series odds and an over/under of 92.5 wins. Despite missing last year’s playoffs and finishing fourth in a competitive AL East, the Blue Jays have been picked as the AL’s team to beat.

The Blue Jays, Astros, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees all have an over/under win total north of 91. Besides the Dodgers, only the Atlanta Braves are projected to win more than 90 games in the National League.

Four teams have better championship odds than the Braves. No team has successfully repeated as the World Series champion since the Yankees won three straight titles from 1998-2000.

Other than the Blue Jays, the New York Mets have the highest expectations of any team that missed the 2021 playoffs. The Mets are the most popular World Series bet with the third-best championship odds in the NL. New York’s season has already gotten off to a poor start now that ace Jacob deGrom could miss multiple months with a shoulder injury.

The teams from the Bay Area are expected to take the biggest step back from last season. The San Francisco Giants led MLB with 107 wins in 2021, but their over/under total for 2022 is just 85.5. After going a respectable 86-76 a year ago, the Oakland Athletics have traded most of their best players and are projected at 67.5 wins.
