KEY POINTS

  • The Yankees continue to work on a deal to keep Aaron Judge in New York
  • Gerrit Cole is confident that the Yankees will get the deal done soon
  • The Yankees have until the opening day to offer Judge a new contract

Aaron Judge is patiently waiting for what the New York Yankees will be offering.

The 29-year-old is anticipating the Yanks’ long-term contract extension proposal something that needs to be accomplished before the MLB's opening day.

New York has roughly a week to come up with an offer to the three-time All-Star.

Based on a report from Ryan Chichester of WFAN, it seems the Yankees are ready to pay Judge roughly $30 million annually–something that is higher than the $21 million bid that he wants.

However, the next issue tied to that is the length of the contract.

Although they are willing to spend huge on the two-time Silver Slugger award winner, the Yankees are allegedly not open to doing so beyond six to seven years.

The Yankees were reportedly only previously willing to offer Judge $17 million.

Hence, nothing is set in stone even if Judge made it known he would prefer to stay with the Yankees.

Should he hit free agency, several MLB teams are expected to come in and try to lure him away from New York.

For now, Judge remains optimistic about getting a deal done with the Yankees.

He is aware that the clock is ticking and that both sides want to settle the matter and avoid arbitration.

“I’m always optimistic, but I know the days are counting down and both sides want to get something done,’’ Judge told The Post.

He has reportedly sought the opinion of his teammates on his situation. One of them is Gerrit Cole, who bats that the Yankees will get something done when they want to.

“I don’t want to speculate [on Judge’s free agency], because there’s this window right here and then at the end of the year [before he hits the market], but I would say when the Yankees want somebody and their back is up against the wall, if Hal wants to get it done, he gets it done,’’ Cole stated.

On his part, DJ LeMahieu feels that seeing Judge move elsewhere is unimaginable.

“I can’t imagine him anywhere else,” LeMahieu stated. “I don’t think anyone could. I don’t want to even think about it.”
