  • Colby Covington eyes UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier as his next opponent
  • Covington says he can fight Poirier anytime, anywhere
  • UFC president Dana White makes a bold admission about what's next for "Chaos"

Colby Covington knows exactly who he wants to face next inside the Octagon.

As expected, the grudge match between Covington and Jorge Masvidal did not fail to live up the hype. However, it was “Chaos” who got the better of his opponent.

Covington clearly dominated Masvidal by relying on his wrestling and was declared winner via unanimous decision.

During his post-fight interview, the two-time UFC welterweight contender declared that Masvidal is done. Hence, he now wants elite lightweight Dustin Poirier next.

“I just took care of Miami street trash (Masvidal), now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash (Poirier),” Covington shouted. “Where you at Dustin Poirier , you c---. You said it’s on sight. Name the site, Dustin. Bring that jezebel of a wife and bring that little kid and I’ll see you soon. You’re next.”

Covington reiterated the same thing during his post-event press conference.

When asked about his reaction to Poirier referring to him as “Bombaclot” on Twitter, the 34-year-old said “The Diamond” should stop running his mouth and face him.

He also stressed that it doesn’t have to be in the UFC as it can happen anywhere.

“Let’s do it, bro,” Covington said in response to Poirier’s tweet. “He said it’s on sight. Let’s do it. Stop talking reckless in the media. If I talk to the media and say things, I come out here and back it up. I’m a man of my word."

“So we can do it anywhere,” he added. “We don’t have to do it in the UFC octagon. If he wants to do it in a park, or in a street, my one stipulation is that you let the world watch it and enjoy themselves.”

Covington vs. Poirier has been brewing prior to UFC 272. However, company president Dana White made a blunt admission about what’s next for “Chaos.”

According to White, the only thing certain at the moment is that Covington keeps on winning.

But as for who’s next on deck, the UFC boss said he doesn’t have an idea yet.

“I don’t know, that’s a good question,” White said of Covington’s next opponent. “We knew tonight, whoever lost, ‘What would be next?’ and ‘Where would they go?’ And I don’t know, sitting right here, right now, I don’t know. On either one of them, even Colby, who won.”

“The thing too is that after a while no matter how much you hate him [Covington], you’ve at least got to respect him. The guy keeps winning fights and he’s a tough dude.”

Covington also wants another crack at the welterweight belt. However, reigning champion Kamaru Usman is expected to be out due to injury until July and he would like to have a “tune-up” fight in between time.
