A boxing prodigy could be on the verge of proving he deserves to carry the mark Muhammad Ali left in the sport.

Nico Ali Walsh may be just another man with a famous middle name for now. However, things could take a huge turn when he makes his pro boxing debut next month.

He is looking to get a degree in business, but at the same time, he vows to “continue” the legacy of his grandfather and late boxing icon--Muhammad Ali.

"I'm doing what I love," Ali Walsh told Sky Sports. “I am honored to continue the fighting legacy that my grandfather started. It is a responsibility I don't take lightly."

The youngster had just signed with Top Rank and is being honed under the tutelage of British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and his trainer Sugarhill Steward.

"Tyson Fury actually gave me the best advice I've heard,” Ali Walsh told ESPN.

Weighing in on Ali Walsh’s promising career, Top Rank boss Bob Arum is confident the “lovely kid” could live up to the hype of his grandfather.

"Lovely, lovely kid,” Arum said of Ali Walsh. “Very, very well-spoken and we've had him training with Sugarhill Steward, who is Tyson's trainer, and he said the kid has the ability.”

"We're going to start him on the road and you'll see the fight over in the UK,” he continued. “It's on August 14, and he'll be on that card. Then we'll bring him hopefully to Madison Square Garden, where his grandfather excelled and we can show him in the Garden."

Arum further pointed out that the 20-year-old is a truly gifted “athlete” who can carve his own path in the sport even without carrying the name of his legendary grandfather.

"He's very intelligent,” the promoter raved. “He's educated and he appears to me to be like a perfect sort of athlete that you want to introduce to the public, even if he wasn't Ali's grandson.”

"It's really on his [Ali Walsh’s] shoulders, carrying on the legacy of the greatest fighter of all time, but if anybody can handle it, I think this kid can handle it,” he added. "I actually want to bring him over to London to fight. They'll go crazy."

Ali Walsh is the son of Robert Walsh and Rasheda Ali Walsh, Muhammad’s daughter. Among the couple’s three sons, he was the only one who decided to pursue boxing.
