Naomi Osaka is a young professional tennis player who quickly made herself known on the global stage. She has recently become the highest-earning female athlete in history with her massive $60 million earnings in 2020.

The young athlete made her debut in 2018. She then brought herself into the top ranks of highest-paid female athletes worldwide within two years. From June 2019 to June 2020, Osaka earned $40 million, beating the previous record-holder, Serena Williams, by $5 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth.

In the following year, Osaka continued to dominate the tennis scene, setting her second consecutive year of being the highest-paid female athlete. She earned a lucrative $60 million, the majority of which came from off-court endorsement deals, which paid her more than $50 million, Forbes reported.

Osaka signed deals with blockbuster brands, including Workday, Louis Vuitton and Airbnb. To date, the tennis player has more than 20 sponsors that pay her a hefty amount of compensation for the exposure she makes for them.

The 23-year-old Japanese athlete surpassed Williams' earnings from 2020 to 2021 by more than $20 million. She also won the 2020 U.S. Open in September and became the champion of the Australian Open held in February this year, AS English reported. She reportedly took home about $5 million in prize money for winning the two tournaments.

Osaka has previously revealed that she struggled with bouts of depression after winning her first Grand Slam in 2018. The controversies with the young athlete continued after she withdrew from the French Open earlier this year when tournament officials fined her for refusing to attend press conferences.

The young superstar cited mental health issues when she withdrew from the tournament, saying she was not a natural public speaker and was hit with anxiety whenever she spoke in front of the media, according to ESPN.

During a recent pre-tournament news conference on Monday, Osaka was seen crying when a reporter asked her about her thoughts on the Haitian earthquake. The athlete’s father is a Haiti native, and her concerns for her family made her emotional after hearing the journalist’s question, resulting in the tennis player pulling her hat over her eyes. After a short break, the interview resumed and Osaka apologized for walking out, as per CNN.
