“Nashville” Season 3 has not been kind to Layla Grant (Aubrey Peeples), but things might finally start looking up for her. The singer will return to the recording studio later this season -- but she'll have to face someone she has a past with.

Though Layla has wanted a music career, no one has been willing to give it to her. She was forced to continue her reality show despite discovering that her husband Will (Chris Carmack) was gay. She was portrayed as an idiot on TV while Will got a whole new fan base. Just as she started to get some relief through her relationship with Jeff (Oliver Hudson), he broke up with her and she found Will in bed with another woman. After all of that, Layla ended up taking some pills and trying to drown herself in the pool at Jeff’s house.

It seems Jeff may try to make amends with Layla after she recovers. “Remember how Layla almost killed herself after Jeff Fordham's rejection? Looks like she's gotten over that pretty fast, since the aspiring singer is about to sign to his label!” E! Online reports. Fans know that Layla was already signed to Edgehill, but it’s easy to forget that since everyone focused on her husband more than her. However, this likely means that Jeff will allow Layla to come back into the studio and work on a new album.

Working with the ex who gave her pills she used to attempt suicide sounds super awkward. However, we’re wondering why Layla is back in the studio. She loves music, but just last week Jeff said he needed a star that was even younger. That’s why he went after Rayna’s (Connie Britton) daughter Maddie (Lennon Stella). Perhaps he’ll lure Layla back because he needs as many artists as possible to release albums.

Yet Jeff couldn’t even bring himself to visit Layla in the hospital, so it seems unlikely that he’ll be trying to bring her in. The person most invested in Layla’s career is Layla herself. The police told Teddy (Eric Close) that Layla had the right to press charges against Jeff since the incident occurred on his property. Perhaps Layla will use that option to blackmail Jeff into letting her finally record that album. After all, blackmail was how she got into the studio earlier this season.

The real question is how involved will Jeff and Layla be? Will they maintain a professional relationship or will they jump into their romantic affair again? Fans will have to keep watching to find out.
